Haitian Pastor to Visit First Presbyterian Church

On Wednesday, March 10th, First Presbyterian Church will welcome Pastor Leon Dorleans from Porte Prince, Haiti.  Dinner will be served at 5:45 PM and Pastor Dorleans will speak at 6:15 PM about current recovery efforts in Haiti following last month’s earthquake and the ongoing work of Haiti Outreach Ministries.  Dinner and the program will be held in the church fellowship hall at 1006 N. Chestnut Street, Lumberton.

Pastor Dorleans, trained at Ozark Christian College and Cincinnati Christian University, is the senior pastor of the Christian Churches of Cite Soleil, Blanchard, Ibo Beach and Repatriote in Porte Prince, Haiti.  Over 3000 Haitians worship each week in these churches.

Pastor Dorleans is also the Field Director for Haiti Outreach Ministries.  Haiti Outreach Ministries seeks to share the Gospel and the love of Christ to the people of Haiti. HOM focuses on the poor areas in and near the capital of Port au Prince. Ministry efforts are currently in areas of Cite Soleil, Blanchard (Terre Noire), Repatriote, and Ibo Beach (Source Matelas).

Haiti Outreach Ministry takes the form of:

Louisville, KY

The Session and the Program Committee of the Clark Memorial Fund are pleased to announce the third annual Douglas H. Clark and Carolyn J. Clark Convocation has been rescheduled for May 1-2, 2010.  The intent of the Clark Convocation is to bring a leading scholar, teacher, musician, or church leader to First Presbyterian Church so that not only this church, but our entire community, might learn together, grow in our faith, and be empowered for ministry.

God has blessed us in that the 2010 Convocation leader will be Mr. David Eicher.  David is a thirty year church musician, organist, and clinician.  He has spoken at the Montreat Music and Worship Conference and led workshops across the country.  Currently David serves as the Convener of the Presbyterian Committee on Congregational Song.  This committee has been charged by the General Assembly, with the help of the church, to research, develop, and produce a new hymnal and worship/music resources for the Presbyterian Church (USA.

On Saturday, May 1st, David will be giving a lecture and leading a congregational hymn sing exploring the theme: Forming Faithful Disciples: Let the People Sing! A community dinner ($5 per person) will be held between the lecture and the hymn sing.   David will also be providing special music at both worship services on Sunday, May 2nd, in addition to leading a combined adult forum on the new hymnal and music resources during the Sunday School hour.

The Convocation is supported by the Clark Family Memorial Fund established in memory of First Presbyterian Church member and Elder Emeritus Dr. Douglas H. Clark.
